Unity During the Orlando Shooting

Orlando shooting In response to the terrible Orlando shooting, we must all stand up to violence and bigotry whenever we see it in action, as Islamophobia and homophobia are violations of humanity.

During Ramadan‬ and shortly after the funeral of ‪‎Muhammad Ali‬, a horrendous hate crime and act of terrorism occurred in the magical city of Orlando, Florida‬.In the Pulse nightclub, a popular club within the LGBTQI community, more than 50 people were killed and more than 50 were injured. Much of the United States didn't even have time to fully process and appreciate one of the most positive exposures to American-Muslim communities and Islam it has ever experienced.

The same exact day as the horrific shooting in Orlando, a 20-year-old male had constructed plans to attend the L.A. Pride festival in West Hollywood where he wished "to harm Gay Pride event."

We must not raise arms against innocent Muslims out of fear or for "pay backs" and we must work together, through urgent policy recommendations and progressive social change, to immediately address homophobic teachings that are widespread in both‪ Christian‬ and Muslim‬ communities.

Orlando shooting

Our views align with Muslims Against Homophobia and LGBT Hate and we stand with Muslims for Progressive Values, and adhere to the belief that,

Any violence against LGBTQI‬ people are therefore a violation of Islamic teachings.

We are indeed united in our outrage and grief by the tragedy in Orlando, which happens to be the worst mass shooting in the history of the United States. Let this be a time in which we can put our differences aside, and rededicate ourselves to the fight for full equality for all people regardless of their religion, sexual orientation, race, or background.

It is true, that no one is equal unless everyone is equal.
